With the holiday season approaching us we can't help but notice the abundance of holiday flowers and plants popping up around us. But how often do we stop and think about what hidden meanings these plants could have? Lets talk about the most popular holiday plant there is, Poinsettia. This lovely plant is most know for its red leaves, and if you are like me you have wondered how on earth are they red. Well, to demystify the red leaves for you, the Poinsettia is a light sensitive plant and when you deprive the plant of light when it is leafing, the chlorophyll used to turn the leaves green can’t be produced. The result of this lack of light causes the leave to only produce the color red. This is called photoperiodism. Cool huh? So, what hidden meaning could this plant have in the language of flowers? Poinsettia = Be of Good Cheer! Keeping Poinsettias around during this time of year reminds us to keep the spirit of the season alive.
Poinsettia (Be of Good Cheer) + Holly 3 (Enchantment) + Christmas Rose (Relieve my Anxiety) + Mistletoe 3 (Affection and Love) = Tis the Season to be Jolly!
