2017 Wedding Flower Trends, What They Mean in the Language of Flowers, and What They Mean for your Budget!
1. 2017 Wedding Trend: Dahlias
Dahilas come in so many different colors and forms, it's incredible! They're beautiful favorites amongst gardeners and San Franciscans in general (I highly recommend paying a visit to the Golden Gate Dahlia Garden Dell one summer). My personal favorites are the Pompoms and Collerettes... and of course, the Cafe Au Laits!
The thing about Dahlias, though: they are one of the shortest-lasting flowers once cut. As a florist, I would advise to use something that will be guaranteed to last throughout your wedding day. Dahlias tend to wilt quickly once cut.
If you do decide to gamble on these beauties, take heart in knowing that their language of flowers meanings are particularly sensational: 1. good taste | 2. dignity | 3. forever thine | 4. gratitude | 5. pomp | 6. instability | 7. misrepresentation |8. participation | 9. I think of you constantly | 10. gratitude to parents | 11. I am happy that you love me.
2. 2017 Wedding Trend: Chrysanthemum
Like Dahlias, Chrysanthemums (known as "mums" for short), come in a wide variety of shapes and colors. Unlike Dahlias, Mums are inexpensive and last longer than almost any other flower, EVEN OUT OF WATER!
Their language of flowers meanings aren't too shabby, either: 1. you are a wonderful friend | 2. long life| 3. fidelity | 4. cheerfulness | 5. optimism | 6. joy | 7. joviality | 8. mirth | 9. sense of adventure
3. 2017 Wedding Trend: Sunflowers
Sunshiney flowers are in this year, and what could be more sunshiney than a Sunflower? Actually, they even mean "sunshine" in the language of flowers!
SUNFLOWER= 1. homage | 2. devotion | 3. false riches | 4. adoration | 5. SUNSHINE | 6. spiritual attainment | 7 .flexibility | 8. opportunity | 9. good luck | 10. wealth | 11. ambition | 12. loyalty | 13. haughtiness
Contrary to popular belief, sunflowers come in tiny sizes, too. One of our favorite small-headed Sunflower varieties, adorably named "Bashful" is even pollen-free!
Sunflowers tend to last a while (we've even used them to make some bold and beautiful flower crowns!) and are generally inexpensive.
4. 2017 Wedding Trend: Carnations
Carnations have finally made a comeback-- and thank goodness! These durable, inexpensive beauties come in so many colors that you're bound to find the exact right shade for your big day.
We love them because they remain their beautiful selves all day, even outside of water. No wilting worries here!
Plus, one of their meanings in the language of flowers is "Yes!" Yes!!? Get it?! I DO!
(Check out their other awesome meanings on bloomequation.com/flowers.)
Carnations are back! Inexpensive, durable and lovely, they're the perfect wedding flower!
5. 2017 Wedding Trend: Greenery
I mean, we knew it, right? This year's Pantone Color of the Year is "greenery" so it only makes sense that ACTUAL greenery would make the cut for this year's wedding trends.
Personally, I'm super excited about this. In fact, my own wedding (this September!!!) will feature greenery centerpieces and hangings!
Greenery is a great wedding choice because, as "filler flowers", they are, by definition, less expensive. Most greenery is pretty durable, too.
For my wedding, I'll have gorgeous, unique ferns under the spotlight. Here are some fern meanings according to the language of flowers:
FERN= 1. sincerity | 2. magic | 3. fascination | 4. shelter
FERN, ASPARAGUS= airy grace
FERN, MAIDENHAIR= 1. secrecy | 2. discretion
FERN, WALKING= mobility
